anu (with a lowercase a) is a DJ and illustrator from London. Her musical beginnings trace back to Equaliser, an online magazine she ran with a friend, which focused on showcasing the individuals behind the music they make. Originally kick-starting her radio career on Radar Radio she then went on to host a show on Peckham’s Balamii before landing a monthly slot on NTS in 2017 that continues to go from strength to strength. She was also label manager of internationally lauded record label Rhythm Section for 2 years, which further established her invaluable presence in the underground London scene.
As well as regular DJ dates across UK and record playing excursions into Europe, anu has continued to develop her ties with an increasingly celebrated NTS station through her DJ sets in the clubs as well as across the airwaves. She’s cemented herself as one of the station’s stalwarts and had the honour of representing NTS at the inaugural edition of Uganda’s Ngeye Ngeye Festival in 2017 as well as touring India with the station in 2018.
Further support for her diverse and daring style has come in the form of her Boiler Room debut in 2017 as part of the regular light shining on the expanding and exciting London DJ scene as well as a Resident Advisor live session from Brilliant Corners.
Through her radio shows, DJ sets and approach to life and drawing on her own experiences, Anu always hopes to uplift marginalised voices through whatever she does. She has a platform and a voice and is determined to use for good and not just making people dance. And making people dance is definitely something she does! Anu’s DJ sets are varied and even she finds it difficult to describe her style. She takes in all manner of musical influences and she is as comfortable churning out techno, new wave and electro as she is playing Japanese disco and slept on left-field party anthems. If there’s one thing for certain when you catch her play – you’ll be dancing hard but she’ll be dancing harder.
